Materials

  • Knitted throw or blanket
  • Pompom maker. We used Clover "Pom-Pom Maker", $12.50 for large
  • Balls of thick-ply wool in assorted colours. We used 4 balls of wool to make 14 pompoms
  • Sharp scissors
  • Needle & thread
We used a knitted throw so we could easily separate the stitches along the edges to thread the pompom ties. If using a denser-weave blanket whereby the stitches are tricky to separate, attach the pompoms along the edges with a needle and thread.

Step 1 Make pompoms according to instructions on your pompom maker. Keep in mind that once you've wrapped the wool around the ends of the pompom maker and cut through the wool, you need to tie the pompom with a strand of wool that is about 20cm in length – then it's long enough to fasten the pompom to the throw.

Step 2 Attach pompoms at 30cm intervals along the two longer sides of your throw. To do this you will need to separate the stitches of the throw and thread one strand of the tie through the little hole created, then tie it to the other strand, knotting securely. We attached seven pompoms along each long side to create a beautiful blanket. Balls of fun!
