There's nothing quite like a playstation to keep the kids busy. And we don't mean the computer kind. Swap the technology for learning, creativity and fun with this three-in-one fun spot: a magnetic wall plus reversible activity board with blackboard paint on one side and a felt board on the other. All you need space-wise is a section of wall or back of a door. Then it's just a matter of choice for the little ones: should they line up the alphabet or spell out family member's names on the magnetic board? Get creative and doodle on the chalkboard? Or act out their fave story on the feltboard? Here's how to make your own.

Step 1. Magnetic wall

This clever paint can turn any surface into a magnetic one. What's more, you can paint over it the same colour as the rest of your home's walls and no one would be the wiser that it'll hold up your kid's paintings! Paint the section with magnetic paint and recoat if necessary - two to three coats is ideal and obviously, the more coats, the stronger it'll be. Finish with a top coat of normal wall paint or even try chalkboard over the top for extra usefulness! This paint is surprisingly strong - any kind of fridge magnet appears to stick well.

Step 2. Chalkboard

Paint one side of the MDF in chalkboard paint. Two coats is ideal and don't forget to paint the edges as well for a neater look.

Step 3. Feltboard

Cut the wool felt slightly larger than the MDF and spray the glue adhesive all over the non-chalkboard side. Smooth over the felt and let dry. Turn over and place on a cutting board. Use the MDF edges as a ruler and cut the excess felt off the board. For the felt pieces, simply cut out shapes from coloured felt and get as creative as you like. You can stitch smaller pieces together (such as the wheels on a car) or let them stick them on themselves (like the sun and tree with loose leaves). You could also just do a range of different sized and coloured shapes and let them make their own pictures. For extra stickiness, attach sticky-backed velcro to the backs of the pieces.

Step 4. Attach

Drill two holes at the top of the board no more than a centimetre from edge. Line up on the wall where you want to hang it and put a pencil mark through each hole onto the wall. Insert self-screwing wall plugs into the markings and then screw in the cup hooks to each plus for extra security. Then simply hang! And turn when your child wants a change!
